Some ideas for hobbies
Life seems so busy for many people and you'll often hear: "I have no time'. Yet we all know we are spending far too much time on our phones. What about if instead of scrolling you adopt a new hobby?
It can bring joy, combat loneliness, lift our mood, relationships and improve our overall well-being.
I've learned that I don't have to be perfect or even good at something. Sometimes it's just about having fun. I'm trying out pickleball, want to trampoline and generally experiment with new activities. Some may suit me and I might want to repeat them. Others are just a one-off and that's nice too.
Here are some ideas for you. See whether you fancy any.
1. Start a collection. It can be anything. Stamps, stickers, smurfs, stationery. I recently did a workshop where I created a personal memory box of items I had collected for years. It was nice to be able to collate them in an ordered manner.
2. Punch needling. I've always wanted to make a punch needle cushion, but have not got round to it yet. There are various places that teach it, both online and off-line. I always love @bookhou's projects and have her book on punch needling.
3. Jigsaw puzzles. Not just for during the pandemic. Jigsaw puzzles have been a beloved pastime for people of all ages for centuries. A therapeutic escape.
4. Take an art course. On or off-line. Look at Wildink workshops. One of my favourite online courses platform is Sketchbook Skool.
5. Discover your ancestry. Are you ready for it? I recently met someone who found a long lost sister through discovering her ancestry. Start here.
There are so many more hobbies to try. What about poetry writing, calligraphy, riso printing, terrarium building, flower arranging, bird watching, embroidery, Qi Gong, dance classes. I could go on and on.
